#EatRightSchool FSM India Initiative

Promoting Food Safety, Nutrition & Healthy Habits in Schools

Eat Right School Programme

About Eat Right School

The #EatRightSchool is an initiative by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), aimed at transforming India’s food safety and nutrition landscape. The programme focuses on ensuring the availability and consumption of safe food and healthy diets among school children.

Eat Right School aims to create awareness about food safety, nutrition, and hygiene among children and, through them, influence families and communities. Since food habits are formed early in life, integrating food and nutrition education into both curriculum and extracurricular activities at the school level is essential.

Eat Right Activities

Curriculum Integration: FSSAI has developed a rich repository of content created by domain experts, which can be adopted and integrated into the school curriculum for students as well as Teacher Training Programmes.

Implementation of Eat Right School

In order to spread awareness effectively, schools are encouraged to actively participate in the Eat Right School initiative through the following structured steps:

  1. Online School Registration Portal: A user-friendly and comprehensive online portal has been created for school registration, formation of Health & Wellness teams, and access to various Eat Right activities. This portal supports easy adoption, implementation, and access to credible information.
  2. Health and Wellness Ambassadors (HWA): School teachers and/or parents can be nominated as Health and Wellness Ambassadors or as part of Health & Wellness teams. They are certified by FSSAI through an online certification programme and lead various safe food and nutrition initiatives within the school.
  3. Conduct Eat Right Activities: Schools conduct a range of age-appropriate activities focused on food safety, hygiene, balanced diets, and healthy lifestyles to engage students actively.
  4. Monitor and Evaluate: Progress of activities is monitored and evaluated to ensure effective implementation and measurable outcomes.
  5. Eat Right School Certification: Based on compliance and participation, schools are eligible for Eat Right School certification, recognizing their commitment to promoting healthy food practices.
